Season finale in the Garden Dreams Park on German Unity Day
The Tangerhütte City Park is part of the Garden Dreams of Saxony-Anhalt — a network of historically significant parks and gardens in the state, stretching from Wörlitz via Dessau to Stendal. At the heart of the Tangerhütte Park stands the New Castle, built in 1900 for the Wieprecht family, today the cultural center of the town. The Tangerhütte Local History Association (Heimatverein Tangerhütte e.V.), chaired by Gerhard Borstell, organizes several events annually to keep the castle and park vibrant.
On October 3rd, German Unity Day, the park traditionally closes its open-air season with the Autumn Gathering (Herbstreigen). The Citizens' Shooting Association Tangerhütte 1900/1991 e.V. will provide coffee and cake starting at 2 p.m. The musical program begins at 3 p.m. — in 2026, featuring the duo “Burkhard & Fred”. In parallel, the last public castle tour of the year takes place, and the art exhibition in the castle closes its doors until the season starts in spring. A small, intimate festival — more of a family salon than a mass event.
Tangerhütte is located in the Stendal district in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, about 35 kilometers north of Magdeburg. The town gets its name from the Tangerhütte ironworks, founded here in the 18th century — one of the oldest industrial sites in Central Germany. Today, the industrial history is in the past; what remains is the park with the New Castle and the active local history association that preserves the memory of garden culture and industrial history.
Anyone looking for a family outing on German Unity Day will find a particularly lovely occasion at the Autumn Gathering. Park, castle, live music, homemade cake, a guided tour — and tranquility. Not spectacular, but with a sincerity that has become rare in today's festival culture.
On German Unity Day 2026, the Tangerhütte Local History Association, together with the Citizens' Shooting Association Tangerhütte, organizes the traditional Autumn Gathering. The season finale brings together residents and day guests in the city park — relaxed socializing, live music, homemade cake, a final castle tour. Afterwards, the park goes into hibernation.
