Traditional fun run on German Unity Day — October 3, 2026
The Herbstlauf Ofen has been a firm fixture for runners from all over the northwest for over three decades. German Unity Day on October 3rd is traditionally the running day — perfectly placed for ambitious runners in the marathon cycle and for families planning a sporty holiday outing.
The 2026 edition is the 35th edition and will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The venue is the Ofen district of Bad Zwischenahn — a rural setting with good roads for the running routes and sufficient infrastructure for the start and finish area.
Classic fun run distances for adults plus an extensive youth program are expected:
The Herbstlauf Ofen is part of the "Zwischenahn läuft" (Zwischenahn Runs) campaign week — an overarching initiative by the municipality that bundles sports events around the Zwischenahner Meer. The sports year ranges from the Meerlauf in May, Quer durchs Meer, and Bärentriathlon in August, to the Herbstlauf in October.
The program follows the proven key points of previous years:
Exact distances, start times, and route maps will be communicated in advance on bad-zwischenahn.de.
Start/finish area in the Ofen district, Bad Zwischenahn (specific location to be communicated in advance). Via the A 28 (exit Zwischenahn). Parking spaces designated.
Online registration via bad-zwischenahn.de under "Zwischenahn läuft". On-site registration possible depending on the distance.
Families can plan the children's races in the morning, followed by a joint lunch. Those running the main race should warm up well — October can be cool.
