Autumn Fair as the Year-End Volksfest

The Herbstkirmes Holdorf, along with the Maimarkt and the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market), forms the three major cornerstones of the Holdorf municipality's event calendar. While the Maimarkt opens the warm season and the Weihnachtsmarkt concludes it, the Herbstkirmes in early November marks the transition from autumn to the pre-Christmas period.

Musikverein Holdorf Opens

The Musikverein Holdorf has long been an integral part of the Kirmes opening. With a stand concert on Rathausplatz, the festival weekend is officially ushered in on Saturday afternoon. The association is one of Holdorf's oldest and most active, shaping the characteristic sound of many Holdorf events with its brass arrangements.

Flea Market on the Weekend

The classic fair is complemented by an accompanying flea market, attracting private individuals and commercial second-hand dealers from the region. Books, household items, toys, clothing, and collector's items change hands in a relaxed atmosphere. The flea market extends the festival grounds into surrounding streets, making the festival day an extensive browsing event.

Classic Fair Atmosphere

As with every Holdorf Kirmes, there are carousels, snack stalls, shooting galleries, and raffle stands on Rathausplatz. Bratwurst, fries, candied almonds, crêpes, sweets, and precursors to mulled wine provide culinary sustenance, while catering tents offer spaces for convivial evening gatherings. Admission is free.
