About Herbstival

On September 12th and 13th, 2026, the first edition of Herbstival will launch at Berger Festplatz in Stuttgart's East End — a two-day open-air festival for electronic music and installations. The format replaces the former Panopticum Sommerfest and concludes the Stuttgart festival season. The event is organized by IG Berger Festplatz, an association of local collectives and clubs from Stuttgart's East End.

From Panopticum to Herbstival

For decades, Berger Festplatz in Stuttgart's East End has been home to Volksfests (public festivals), neighborhood celebrations, and open-air events. In recent years, the Panopticum Sommerfest had taken over as the subcultural summer highlight — a format for electronic music, art installations, and what the Stuttgart club scene describes as an "alternative open air." In 2026, this becomes Herbstival: same idea, new name, new date in September — crowning the season at Berger Festplatz (April to September).

Concept: Music and Installation

Herbstival is not a classic music festival with a headliner poster. IG Berger Festplatz sees the event as a curated weekend where music (Techno, House, Ambient, Live Electronic) and visual art (light installations, mapping projections, sculpture setups) are equally intertwined. Several sound areas and installation zones will be created across a smaller festival area, allowing you to wander freely — no stage-hopping, but a festival landscape.

Stuttgart-East as a Cultural Space

The eastern district of Baden-Württemberg's state capital is considered the city's most vibrant area: Schwabstraße, Rotenwaldstraße, the Werkstatt, the Wagenhallen area, the Lehenviertel — many of these addresses are where the Herbstival organizers come from. Berger Festplatz itself (Schmalzmarkt, at Ostendplatz near Talstraße) is used for Volksfests and neighborhood celebrations in the summer; in autumn, subculture collectives take over the venue.

What to Expect

Expect an audience from Stuttgart's club and cultural scene, admission in the usual open-air range (exact 2026 tariffs not yet published), several mini-stages instead of one main stage, a curated food truck selection, and an atmosphere that feels significantly more subcultural than Stuttgart's major open-airs like Kessel Festival or Jazzopen. The 2026 lineup is expected to be released in the summer of 2026.

Herbstival — edition 2026

Herbstival 2026 runs on September 12th and 13th, 2026, at Berger Festplatz in Stuttgart's East End. The first edition of the format after its renaming from the former Panopticum Sommerfest. Open-air weekend with electronic music (Techno, House, Live Electronic) and installations spread across the entire festival grounds. Organizer: IG Berger Festplatz, an association of Stuttgart subculture players. Detailed program and lineup expected to be released in summer 2026.

First Edition in 2026

Herbstival 2026 is the first festival edition under the new name. The organizers — Stuttgart club collectives from the city's East End — wanted to give the format a more distinct character with the transition to autumn: less of a summer get-together, more of a curated program. The save-the-date announcement has been running since spring 2026 via the Facebook page IG Berger Festplatz.

A lineup featuring regional DJ stars from Stuttgart and Southern Germany is expected, supplemented by one or two national acts from the Techno and House scene. According to the organizers' tradition, the exact lineup will be published shortly before the event — as of spring 2026, the artist list is not yet final.
