Hohen Neuendorf — growing town in the Berlin commuter belt

Hohen Neuendorf, with almost 27,000 inhabitants, is one of the most dynamic towns in the Oberhavel district, directly north of the Berlin city limits. The town has an S-Bahn connection (S1, S8), a large proportion of commuters, and a growing family population. This mix shapes the festival concept: a family festival with classic showman elements and a manageable size.

Stadtfest and Herbstfest alternating

The town has been holding its major city festivals in annual rotation for years: one year Stadtfest (with a historical-anniversary-oriented character), the next year Herbstfest (classic Volksfest with amusement rides). 2024 was Stadtfest year — the city's 675th anniversary was celebrated on September 14th. 2025 was Herbstfest year and at the same time the Friendship Festival of Partner Cities (September 12–14). 2026 will be Herbstfest year again.

Date 2026 in preparation

As of May 2026, the exact date for the 2026 Herbstfest has not yet been publicly announced — publication typically occurs in spring/summer. However, the town has already activated the registration forms for stalls and stage on the municipal website (hohen-neuendorf.de/de/buergerservice/formulare-antraege/herbstfest-2026...). This officially confirms the 2026 festival. Two options are expected: September 11–13 or September 18–20, 2026.

Program type: classic Volksfest

The Herbstfest program follows a proven Volksfest format. Amusement rides and showman's park are the centerpiece — Ferris wheel, carousel, roller coaster, bumper cars, smaller family rides. Stage program on Rathausplatz with cover bands, Schlager acts, and dance performances by Hohen Neuendorf clubs. Club stalls showcase the local club scene — from sports clubs and the volunteer fire department to kindergarten parent associations. Catering with classic Volksfest repertoire: Bratwurst, Schmalzkuchen, crêpes, cocktails, beer.

Family festival in the commuter belt

The town in the Berlin commuter belt has grown with the families who moved here from Berlin in the 2000s and 2010s. This population precisely shapes the Herbstfest: a lot of family atmosphere during the day, a classic Volksfest in the evening, with the club scene forming the backbone. With Rathausplatz as the central venue, the event remains manageable and within walking distance. The detailed program schedule will be published on the municipal website before the festival.
