Ten days of autumn funfair on Sprödentalplatz – 128 showmen, 13 major rides, opening fireworks on October 3rd and family day on October 9th
The Krefeld Sprödentalkirmes is one of the oldest large funfairs in the Lower Rhine region. The Volksfest has been held on Sprödentalplatz since 1924 – a former parade ground that is now one of Krefeld's largest event spaces. The spring and autumn Sprödentalkirmes together form the largest Volksfest format in the "Velvet and Silk City."
The Herbst-Sprödentalkirmes 2026 runs from Friday, October 2nd, to Sunday, October 11th, 2026, on Sprödentalplatz. This makes for ten days of festivities. Opening hours vary: typically 1 PM–10 PM (weekdays), 1 PM–11 PM (weekends). The official opening with fireworks takes place on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, starting at 3 PM.
On German Unity Day, the funfair traditionally starts its official opening ceremony at 3 PM. The highlight is the grand opening fireworks display around 10 PM, visible from Sprödentalplatz over Krefeld's northern districts.
Anyone who receives and redeems a flag at the entrance gets a free extra ride on a attraction.
Reduced ride prices on all carousels, intended as a special offer for families with children.
A second fireworks display as a highlight on the weekend, shortly before the end of the funfair.
Those coming with children can purchase a family ticket (10% discount at all stalls, excluding Flag Day and Family Day discounts). It's worthwhile for families planning multiple rides and purchases.
Sprödentalplatz is a large, paved event ground in the Sprödentalviertel district, east of Krefeld's city center. Besides the funfair, it's also used for the Rose Monday parade (as an assembly point) and is accessible by tram and bus from all over Krefeld.
The 2026 edition of the Herbst-Sprödentalkirmes comprises ten festival days around German Unity Day. Organizers are the Sprödentalplatz showmen's association and the City of Krefeld.
Entry to the festival grounds is free. Rides and food are paid per consumption, mostly cash only. Family ticket with 10% discount at all stalls (excluding Flag Day and Family Day).
By public transport: Tram line 041 or 042 to Sprödentalplatz. Around 10 minutes from Krefeld Central Station. By car via the A57 (Krefeld-Zentrum exit) – parking at the event grounds is limited; public transport is recommended.
Few direct parking spaces. Use the parking garages at Ostwall or Theater and walk to Sprödentalplatz – about a 15-minute walk.
Entry to the festival grounds is free. Rides and food are paid per consumption.
Large carousel area, several food streets, distributed restrooms, first-aid station. Payment is mostly cash only – ATMs are available in the vicinity.
On the opening evening (Saturday, October 3rd), the fireworks are worth seeing – good views either directly at the square or from the surrounding streets. On Family Day (October 9th), it's crowded with children, but cheaper. If you prefer it quieter, come on a weekday afternoon.
