Four days of neighbourhood festival in Stuttgart's Leonhardsviertel — Drinks, Streetfood and Live Music
From July 30 to August 2, 2026, Leonhardsplatz in Stuttgart-Mitte will become a four-day festival mile: the Henkersfest Stuttgart opens its stalls. Four days of drinks, street food, and live music in the historic Leonhardsviertel — one of the characteristic old city districts around the Leonhardskirche next to the Züblinparkhaus.
The Henkersfest has a clear, accessible concept:
The name Henkersfest (Executioner's Festival) alludes to the history of the district: until the mid-18th century, public executions actually took place on the neighboring Wilhelmsplatz. The executioners lived in their own small alley — today's Henker-Gasse. Today, the mood has naturally shifted to festive — only beer flows instead of blood; the Middle Ages are remembered with a tongue-in-cheek name, without reopening historical pain.
The Leonhardsviertel is Stuttgart's oldest city district and an unvarnished mix of health food stores, bars, the red-light district, and alternative scene. The Leonhardskirche, the Züblinparkhaus, and Leonhardsplatz form the center. While Königstraße is the city's tourist showcase, the Leonhardsviertel provides a home for Stuttgart's residents — and the Henkersfest gives the district a stage annually.
The Henkersfest runs parallel to the Marienplatzfest in Stuttgart-Süd (same days). Both neighborhood festivals combine to form a dense festival week, during which Stuttgart-Mitte and Stuttgart-Süd are simultaneously immersed in an open-air atmosphere. Those planning a visit to Stuttgart on the last weekend of July have a special opportunity: to experience two very different neighborhood festivals on one weekend.
With around 630,000 inhabitants, Stuttgart is Germany's sixth-largest city and the state capital of Baden-Württemberg. The city's festival landscape includes many other dates besides Henkersfest and Marienplatzfest — from Jazzopen and Stuttgarter Sommerfest to Cannstatter Volksfest. The Henkersfest is a classic neighborhood festival and an alternative to the big open-airs — accessible, locally anchored, with a clear Stuttgart character.
From July 30 to August 2, 2026, the Henkersfest celebrates its 2026 edition. Four days of festival mile at Leonhardsplatz in Stuttgart-Mitte — against the backdrop of the historic Leonhardsviertel around the Leonhardskirche and the Züblinparkhaus.
Street food stalls, drinks bars, and a live music stage define the atmosphere. The accessible concept with no admission fee and local roots makes the Henkersfest a classic in Stuttgart's summer festival calendar. The Marienplatzfest in Stuttgart-Süd runs in parallel — both festivals together make the last weekend of July the busiest open-air period in Stuttgart.
