Three days of Münsterland shooting club traditions at the Heimathof — May 15th to 17th, 2026
Harsewinkel is a small town in the Gütersloh district in eastern Münsterland, with around 25,000 inhabitants. Beyond its town limits, it is known for CLAAS agricultural machinery — the internationally active family business based in Harsewinkel is a pillar of the local economy. In addition, the rural Münsterland, with its hamlets, farms, and a vibrant club life, shapes the town's identity. The St. Hubertus Shooting Brotherhood Harsewinkel is one of the most traditional clubs — its Schützenfest every spring is a highlight of the calendar.
The Heimathof Harsewinkel is a cultural-historical site with old half-timbered buildings, festival meadows, and a community center — the natural home for a Münsterland Schützenfest. During the three festival days, a marquee, shooting range, and stage area are set up, and the grounds are decorated with fairy lights, flags, and a shooting club atmosphere.
Friday, May 15th, 2026, is the classic opening day, focusing on the younger generations: selection of the Children's Prince, the Junior Princess, and the Youth King/Queen. A dedicated Children's Disco ensures a good time for the little ones. This is how the shooting club tradition is passed on early — a generational transfer that Münsterland shooting clubs have always cultivated.
Saturday, May 16th, 2026, is the main highlight. At 11:00 AM, a morning pint with assembly on the shooting grounds. At 1:30 PM, gathering at the Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square) for the ceremonial march. This is followed by honors, promotions, and the actual King's Competition — whoever shoots off the last piece becomes the new King or Queen. In the evening, the Shooting Club Ball takes place in the marquee with the live band "Törn On" — free admission.
Sunday, May 17th, 2026, begins at 10:00 AM with the festive church service at the Heimathof — an important component of the Catholic-influenced Münsterland shooting club tradition. At 1:30 PM, the grand parade with guest clubs starts from the Rathausplatz through the town center back to the Heimathof. The highlight is the awarding of the "Schwatte-Jans-Orden" — the brotherhood's highest honor. In the afternoon, a Family Festival takes place at the Heimathof with activities for all generations.
In addition to the Schützenfest, the brotherhood is organizing the 2nd Harsewinkel City Championship in Darts in the marquee on Thursday, May 14th, 2026. Tent opens at 11:00 AM, tournament starts at noon, entry fee €10, catering on-site.
The Münsterland shooting club tradition differs from the Rhineland Carnival style — it is more disciplined, tradition-conscious, and less boisterous. Uniforms, traditional attire, and medals are highly valued; the festive church service is integral, and the parade is more a ceremonial act than a carnival dance. Those who visit the Schützenfest of the St. Hubertus Brotherhood experience a form of Rhineland-Westphalian life that is often lost in the big city context.
Harsewinkel is located between Gütersloh (15 km) and Warendorf (15 km), easily accessible by car via the B 513 and the A 33. The Heimathof is within walking distance of the Rathausplatz. Those arriving from further afield can combine the weekend with a visit to the CLAAS World (industrial experience), a walk around the Heimathof grounds, or an excursion to nearby Warendorf (city of horses).
This year's edition combines the established program points with the 2nd Harsewinkel Darts Tournament on Thursday. The 2026 Royal Court is firmly established, and the festival sequence follows the classic Münsterland shooting club dramaturgy.
