Festival in the Quarry
The Heimspiel Festival is the most important rock, indie, and pop festival in the Central Franconian town of Weißenburg in Bavaria (Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district, Bavaria). The venue is the Bergwaldtheater, an open-air stage in a former quarry on the edge of the historic old town – a spectacular natural setting with rock faces, mixed forest, and an amphitheater-like structure.
Three-Day Festival on Two Stages
The festival lasts for three days – from Thursday evening (opening program on the campsite at the outdoor pool) until Saturday night – and features two stages in the Bergwaldtheater. Around 7-10 acts perform per day, with about 20 bands over the entire weekend. The festival is organized by the Weißenburg Town Cultural Office.
2026 Lineup – Broad Genre Spectrum
The 2026 edition presents a lineup spanning crossover classics, indie pop, reggae, punk, and regional newcomers:
- H-Blockx – the crossover/alternative rock pioneers from Münster
- Montreal – punk rock from Hamburg
- Rian – indie pop
- Milleniumkid – indie rock
- Jamaram meets Jahcoustix – reggae crossover
- Normahl – punk veterans
- Mal Élevé – hip-hop / political rap
- Rainer von Vielen – crossover

Camping, Shuttle, Festival Atmosphere
The festival has its own campsite at the Weißenburg outdoor pool, which opens on Thursday evening with an opening program. Those arriving by car can park at the Kirchweihplatz on Wiesenstraße – a free shuttle bus runs continuously from there to the Bergwaldtheater. The festival has the character of a medium-sized open-air event with a family atmosphere.
Weißenburg and the Bergwaldtheater
Weißenburg in Bavaria, with around 19,000 inhabitants, is a 'Große Kreisstadt' (major district town) in the Altmühltal-Süd Nature Park. It's a town with Roman influences (UNESCO World Heritage Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes with Roman fort and Roman Museum) in southern Central Franconia. The Bergwaldtheater was established in the early 20th century in a disused quarry and has been used as an open-air stage ever since – the Heimspiel Festival is the musical flagship of this venue.
