Village and heritage festival at Marienwerder village church
Marienwerder is a municipality in the Barnim district, located east of Berlin, on the edge of the Barnim Nature Park. The municipality comprises several small districts, nestled in a landscape of forests and lakes. Like many Brandenburg municipalities, Marienwerder lives in the tension between the Berlin commuter belt and rural Brandenburg — and the annual Heimatfest is one of the most important forums where this character becomes visible.
The venue is the square at the Marienwerder village church, Biesenthaler Straße 2. The church, the central square, and the surrounding village ensemble provide the natural setting for a Heimatfest with classic elements: a stage with live music and dancing, a small market, pony rides for children, and family activities. Admission for children under 14 is always free.
The Heimatfest is organized by the Heimatverein (heritage association) together with the local kindergarten, school, sports club, and volunteer fire department — the classic club structure that supports village life in Brandenburg. Volunteer participation is the basis for such festivals to continue for years while also integrating new residents into community life.
Anyone familiar with the term "Heimatfest" in Brandenburg knows the format: it's less about a big stage and more about dancing, pony rides, local music, and shared catering. Admission is free on Friday and Sunday; a small fee is charged on Saturdays, and children under 14 are always free.
The Heimatfest Marienwerder 2026 will take place on Saturday, July 4 (from 3 PM), and Sunday, July 5, 2026 (until 6 PM), at the Marienwerder village church, Biesenthaler Straße 2. The organizers are the Heimatverein (heritage association) in cooperation with the kindergarten, school, sports club, and volunteer fire department. The program includes live music, dancing, pony rides for children, a small market, and catering organized by the clubs. Admission is free on Friday and Sunday, a small fee is charged on Saturday; children under 14 are always free.
