Family festival focused on environmental, nature, and climate protection in the Botanical Garden
The NaturKarussell is primarily aimed at families with children and teenagers. The goal is to make environmental, nature, and climate protection tangible as a concrete experience, rather than an abstract concept. In the Wilhelmshaven Botanical Garden, a tranquil and diverse natural space in the heart of the port city, numerous organizations will be present—from NABU and BUND to local initiatives and associations focused on sustainable consumption. Each booth offers hands-on activities: from building insect hotels and plant identification to energy quizzes and waste sorting games.
With its plant collections, themed gardens, and educational trails, the Botanical Garden on Neuengrodener Weg provides the perfect backdrop for the festival. While families visit the booths, they can simultaneously explore the garden grounds—from the medicinal plant collection and the cottage garden to the area showcasing North German coastal flora. The combination of the festival program and a garden visit makes the NaturKarussell a special experience.
The festival is a reflection of Wilhelmshaven's vibrant local environmental and nature conservation scene. It demonstrates how many initiatives and associations are actively engaged locally in protecting the climate, nature, and quality of life. Visitors have the opportunity to gather information, make connections, and perhaps become involved themselves. Free admission, supported by the City of Wilhelmshaven and volunteers.
The 2026 edition falls on the second Sunday in September. Four hours of programming, many stations, and a relaxed atmosphere in the Botanical Garden.
The NaturKarussell is explicitly family-friendly. Children will find dedicated stations, while parents can gather information or explore the garden simultaneously.
The exact 2026 program—participating organizations, hands-on stations—will be published by the City of Wilhelmshaven. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
