Heimatbund Schneverdingen e.V.
The Heimatbund Schneverdingen e.V. is a traditional association dedicated to preserving local customs and culture. Several hundred members are committed to maintaining the cultural heritage of the town of Schneverdingen and the surrounding heath region. The association has its own Heimathaus, where a large part of the events take place.
Event Series 2026
The 2026 event series is diverse. Lectures on the history of the Lüneburger Heide, sheep farming, regional architecture, and specific topics of town history are on the program, as are local hikes, Low German readings, and musical evenings.
Low German Language and Culture
A focus of the association's work is the preservation of the Low German language, which is still alive in the heath region but is increasingly spoken only by older generations. Low German readings, language courses, and literary evenings with regional authors are part of the regular program.
Local Hikes
The guided local hikes lead through the Lüneburger Heide around Schneverdingen. Experienced guides explain the geology, the history of the heathlands, sheep farming, and nature conservation efforts. The hikes are particularly attractive in August – during the heather bloom.
Heimathaus and Heidemuseum
The Heimathaus is the center of many activities. Lectures, readings, meetings, and small exhibitions take place here. The Heidemuseum Schneverdingen complements the offering with a permanent exhibition on heathland culture.
Membership
The Heimatbund welcomes new members. Members receive the association's publications, invitations to all events, and discounts on paid activities. Registration via the website or directly at the Heimathaus.
