Ten-day diocesan festival of the Diocese of Trier centered around the Holy Robe in Trier Cathedral
The Heilig-Rock-Tage trace their origins back to the last major Holy Robe pilgrimage in 1996 and have been celebrated annually in a significantly smaller format as the diocesan festival of the Diocese of Trier ever since. At its heart is the Tunic of Christ, which, according to Trier tradition, was brought to the city by Saint Helena and is kept in Trier Cathedral. During the Heilig-Rock-Tage, the cathedral opens its doors in a special way for pilgrims and guests; services, devotions, and prayer times take place daily.
The program extends far beyond the classic pilgrimage character. The Diocese sets up a large catering tent on the Domfreihof with a daily stage program: concerts of various styles, lectures, readings, and discussion rounds on spiritual, socio-political, and ecumenical topics. Pilgrim groups from the entire diocese and from partner dioceses, especially from Bolivia (Diocesan Partnership Trier-Bolivia), are involved.
The motto for 2026 — “Incomprehensible: I Hope” — picks up on the theme of hope from the Holy Year 2025 and bridges it to the present day. The exact program is published annually by the Diocese.
The 2026 edition is under the motto “Incomprehensible: I Hope” and combines the theme of hope from the Holy Year with contemporary formats. Confirmed events include, among others, the charity run “Viva Bolivia” in support of the partner diocese, and a dialogue with Samuel Koch — actor, bestselling author, and paraplegic since the “Wetten, dass..?” accident — in the Basilica of Our Lady.
