Traditional customs festival of the HHBV as a prelude to the Hasper Kirmes
The Hasper Wolkenschieberfest is a format with tradition, which forms the prelude to the actual Hasper Kirmes. The Hasper Kirmes itself runs from June 19 to 22, 2026, and is one of the major Kirmes (funfair) events in the western Sauerland and Bergisches Land regions. The Wolkenschieberfest on the weekend before (June 13, 2026) is a kind of neighborhood festival prelude – embedded in the HHBV's event year.
The Hasper Heimat- und Brauchtum-Verein von 1861 e.V. (HHBV) is one of Hagen's oldest customs associations. Founded in 1861, it is not only the organizer of the Hasper Kirmes but also a custodian of local Hagen customs – dialect, regional history, club life, shooting traditions. The Wolkenschieberfest is an association event with a public character.
The venue is the DKS (Alte Feuerwache) on Enneper Straße in Hagen-Haspe. The historic fire station has been repurposed into a cultural center and community hall – with halls, a courtyard, and outdoor areas ideal for a neighborhood festival. The ambiance combines historic architecture with current community use.
The name Wolkenschieberfest is rooted in Hagen's dialect heritage. "Wolkenschieber" (cloud pusher) is a humorous term for people who complain about the weather or try to act against it – thus, for the typical Rhenish-Bergian summer rain catchers. The festival associates a self-ironic component with the name: even if it rains, the celebration goes on.
Haspe is one of the largest districts of Hagen – with around 35,000 inhabitants, it's almost a city within the city. Haspe is known for its industrial past (Hasper Hütte, steel industry) and its strong neighborhood identity. The Hasper Kirmes has been the district's most important identity-forming event for centuries – and the Wolkenschieberfest is an important preliminary event.
The Wolkenschieberfest is not just a standalone event but also a promotional vehicle for the following week: the program, the King and Queen, and highlights of the Hasper Kirmes 2026 will be presented here. Those who live in Haspe or know the region also come to the Wolkenschieberfest to get insider advance information about the actual Kirmes.
The 2026 edition falls on the Saturday before the Hasper Kirmes. The Wolkenschieberfest serves as the opening event and a showcase for what follows a week later as the grand Kirmes.
The Hasper Kirmes itself runs from June 19 to 22, 2026, and is the major event of the Haspe district. Both events are organized by the HHBV.
