Harvest Festival in the Uckermark
The Uckermark in northern Brandenburg is an agriculturally shaped region — vast fields, chains of lakes, avenues, small villages. Harvest festivals here are not folklore, but an expression of a real, existing agricultural identity. The Harvest Festival in Güstow, a district of the town of Prenzlau, is one of the best-known of these festivals — anchored in the club and village community and in the annual rhythm of the farms.
Three Days, One Program
The festival runs for three days from Friday to Sunday. It usually begins on Friday with an opening and a first evening on stage, Saturday follows with a family program and performances by regional bands, and Sunday features the traditional harvest festival highlight with a tractor parade, pea soup distribution, and a festive ceremony.
Parade of Decorated Tractors
The highlight is the parade of tractors decorated with harvest offerings through the village. Farms and clubs lovingly decorate their tractors with straw bales, sunflowers, sheaves of grain, ribbons, and symbols of the respective harvest; in a long column of vehicles, they travel along the village road to the sports field. Families stand at the edges, children throw candy, and hay bale sculptures are popular selfie backgrounds.
Pea Soup, Live Music, Dancing
On the festival grounds, the clubs provide the audience with pea soup from large vats — a standard dish at North German folk festivals. This is accompanied by sausages, beer, coffee, and cake from the village women's kitchens. Dance groups, Schlager bands, and cover bands take turns on stage; in the evening, there is dancing for adults.
Güstow and the Town of Prenzlau
Güstow is one of the districts of the town of Prenzlau, which serves as the district capital in the Uckermark. With the harvest festival, Güstow strengthens its village identity within the urban context — and at the same time integrates into the event calendar of Tourism Uckermark, which markets harvest festivals and rural summer festivals in the region on a supra-regional level.
