The Arendsee is a natural phenomenon: a clear, deep sinkhole lake in the middle of the Altmark, in the far north of Saxony-Anhalt. The municipal Arendsee Lido, with its long sandy beach, expansive water surface, and surrounding pine forests, has been the region's summer hub for generations. Every Friday from 4 PM, a special kind of festival opens here: the Happy Hour at the Lido.

Classic Beach Bar Atmosphere, but in the Altmark

The series is inspired by the concept of beach bars on the Baltic Sea coast: relaxed live music or DJ sets, deckchair atmosphere, cocktails, beer, regional wine, food stalls — and the opportunity to jump into the cool water. In June, there's an additional 50% discount on day admission to the lido — a clear invitation to come by regularly.

From Local Gathering to Tourist Magnet

What began as a small local format has developed into a tourist attraction. Visitors from Salzwedel, Stendal, and even from Berlin and Hamburg drive to the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel on Friday afternoons for a few relaxing hours by the lake. The program changes week by week: sometimes acoustic sets, sometimes DJ nights, sometimes an open-air concert. The common denominator: water, sand, music, and a cool drink.

Arendsee — Health Resort with Tradition

Arendsee is officially recognized as a health resort (Luftkurort) — a title that highlights the high air quality and natural landscape. Hiking and cycling trails run around the lake, and in the historic town center of Arendsee, you'll find the Arendsee Monastery with its Romanesque church. The Happy Hour is a modern addition to a traditional resort town — and both work together in this mix better than one might initially think.
