Presentation of the new vintages of the Klosterhof Lösch winery on Whit Sunday with traditional Worms Handkäse format
Worms-Abenheim is one of the eleven districts of Worms and lies in the northwestern part of the town, embedded in the Rheinhessen vineyards. With its village structure, the medieval Klosterhof and several established wineries, Abenheim is a Worms wine village in the true sense: viticulture, village community and landscape shape the character of the place.
The Klosterhof Lösch winery is located in the historic Klosterhof of Abenheim. The Lösch family cultivates vineyards here, combining classic Rheinhessen varieties — Riesling, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Burgunder — with modern vinification methods. The winery also runs its own herb and farm garden, which is reflected in the event philosophy: wine, herbs and regional specialties as an overall concept.
The HANDKEESFESCHD combines the annual presentation of the new vintages with the Rheinhessen classic Handkäse mit Musik. The Handkäse — a matured sour milk cheese with tradition since the 18th century — is marinated in Abenheim in the classic way, with onions, vinegar, oil and caraway. The name with music refers to the effect of the onions in the stomach: it is a fond, tongue-in-cheek hint at the digestive processes after generous enjoyment.
Whit Sunday is a classic date in the Rheinhessen wine calendar for presenting the new vintages. The spring bottlings are complete, the wines have settled briefly after bottling and show their freshness. Klosterhof Lösch invites its regular customers and interested visitors to taste the new vintage on this day, often in the order from light and fresh to dense and complex, supplemented by remaining stocks from previous years for comparison.
Whitsun is a traditional wine event weekend in Worms. While larger formats such as the Wormser Weinmeile are already held in April, the Worms wine villages such as Abenheim, Pfeddersheim and Herrnsheim take Whitsun as a welcome opportunity to invite regular customers and wine lovers on a smaller scale.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Klosterhof Lösch winery in spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
