Spookily decorated enclosures, costumes, and family fun around October 31st
While commercial Halloween events often rely on shock and fright, Osnabrück Zoo takes a different approach: Halloween here is staged as a family-friendly autumn festival. From October 30th to November 1st, 2026, the grounds on Lotter Straße will be transformed into a gently spooky backdrop. Pumpkins, fairy lights, Halloween figures, and themed decorations line the paths through the zoo.
The zoo uses Halloween to tell the biological background of nocturnal animals. Bats, owls, black bears, and spiders – many of the animals considered eerie in Halloween tradition are fascinating and protected creatures. Zookeepers explain the ecological importance of these species at feeding sessions and stations, dispelling prejudices.
There is a varied hands-on program for children:
Osnabrück Zoo, with its old forest stands and underground themed worlds like the Underworld, is already a magical place. At Halloween, this atmosphere unfolds with particular intensity: yellow and red autumn leaves, crunching foliage on the paths, and subtly staged Halloween accents make the visit an experience for all the senses.
Admission to the Halloween event is included in the regular zoo ticket. Family tickets and reduced rates for children, students, and severely disabled persons are available.
Gentle thrills instead of hard shocks – Osnabrück Zoo consciously designs Halloween for families with children of all ages.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in the autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
