A Street Festival in the Minden Area
The Altstadtfest Petershagen is the most traditional city festival in Petershagen on the Weser river. It takes place annually on the first Saturday of September – in 2026, this will be on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The organizer is the Gewerbe- und Verkehrsverein Petershagen (Petershagen Trade and Traffic Association), which has been transforming the city center into a festival mile for years on its own initiative. The opening ceremony takes place at 9:30 AM at the town hall; the program then runs all day.
Four Pillars: Flea Market, Music, Motorcycles, Cars
The concept is varied and aimed at all age groups:
- Large flea market along Mindener Straße and Hauptstraße – with private sellers, hobby traders, and small craftspeople.
- Live music on two stages – regional bands, school music, dance and show groups.
- MC Eldagsen motorcycle meet – the motorcycle club from the neighboring town organizes a show meet with old and new bikes.
- Car show and children's carousel – local car dealers present their models, alongside a classic children's carousel for the youngest visitors.
Petershagen — An Old Bishop's City on the Weser
Petershagen is a town in the Minden-Lübbecke district in northeastern North Rhine-Westphalia, on the Weser river at the transition to the state of Lower Saxony. The town, with its approximately 25,000 inhabitants, has a remarkable history as the former bishop's city of Minden – Petershagen Castle was once the residence of the Bishops of Minden. Today, the old town with its castle, half-timbered houses, and the nearby Weser valley is a popular destination. The Altstadtfest brings the city community and economy together while also promoting the city center as a shopping location.
Day of Civic Initiatives
Like many municipal city center festivals in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Altstadtfest Petershagen relies on the voluntary commitment of associations and the willingness of local retailers to open their shops and offer special promotions. The Gewerbe- und Verkehrsverein, as the organizer, coordinates exhibitors, takes care of electricity and water connections, security, and advertising. This creates a classic community and trade festival that brings many generations together.
