An Advent world with a Ferris wheel in the city centre
The Hagen Christmas Market is one of the largest Advent markets in southern Westphalia. From November 20 to December 30, 2026, Hagen's city centre — from the pedestrian zone to Friedrich-Ebert-Platz — will be transformed into a festive Advent world. Around 80 decorated stalls offering arts and crafts, gift items, mulled wine, and street food will line the central streets.
One of the visual highlights: the 50-metre-high Ferris wheel offering views over Hagen's city centre — extending to the Sauerland on clear days. The Ferris wheel is one of the largest at a German Christmas market, making the Hagen Christmas Market a destination not only for locals but also for visitors from the Märkischer Kreis and the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis.
With just under 190,000 inhabitants, Hagen (an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia) is the largest city at the transition between the Ruhr area and the Sauerland — hence its nickname 'Gateway to the Sauerland'. A Hanseatic city in the Middle Ages, shaped by the steel and mechanical engineering industry from the 19th century onwards, Hagen is now a university city (FernUniversität Hagen). The city centre, with its pedestrian zone and Friedrich-Ebert-Platz, forms the geographical and cultural heart.
The Christmas market runs for six weeks with consistent opening hours:
Closed: Totensonntag (November 22), Christmas Eve (December 24), and December 25/26 (Christmas Day and Boxing Day).
The approximately 80 stalls offer:
The Bummelpass (shopping pass) with stamps from participating shops offers chances to win prizes. Sundays with open shops during the Christmas market invite visitors for a shopping stroll.
The 2026 Hagen Christmas Market will occupy the central squares of the city centre from mid-November to the end of December. The Ferris wheel is the centrepiece of the Advent atmosphere, with 80 stalls offering arts and crafts, mulled wine, and street food. Accompanying concerts at the bandstand in Volkspark.
