About Hafenfest Parkinsel
Turnerfischerei und Cyclistenklub 1881
Behind the Hafenfest is the Turnerfischerei und Cyclistenklub Ludwigshafen 1881 (TFC) – one of the city's most traditional sports clubs, focusing on water sports, rowing, and cycling. The club's facilities are located on Parkinsel, directly at the Kammerschleuse.
Parkinsel and Kammerschleuse
Parkinsel is a peninsula in southern Ludwigshafen, separated from the Rhine by the Kammerschleuse. This location makes it one of the most attractive urban natural areas along the Rhine – and in summer, it also hosts the Festival of German Film. The Kammerschleuse itself is an engineering heritage of the industrial city and, at the same time, the access to the club's own harbour basin.
Regattas and Water Sports
Water sports demonstrations are the centrepiece of the Hafenfest: rowing regattas in various boat classes, canoe competitions, dragon boat races, and sometimes demonstrations of stand-up paddling or water skiing. This highlights the water sports character of the organising club.
Harbour Flair and Community
In addition to the sporting programme, the maritime festival atmosphere is central. Harbour tours, boat viewings, food stalls with fish and harbour specialities, live music, and encounters between athletes and the public characterise the festival. It is simultaneously an open day for the club and a celebration for the neighbourhood.
