Island festival in the sailing harbour — Free admission
Hiddensee is located west of Rügen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district and is one of the few car-free islands on the German Baltic Sea coast. Those who come here travel by ferry — typically from Schaprode, Stralsund, or Zingst. Kloster is the northernmost village on the island and the most important point of contact: it houses the island information centre, many guesthouses, and the sailing harbour where the Hafenfest takes place.
The harbour area at Hafenweg 15 becomes a festival ground once a year: stages, stalls, and activity areas extend from the jetty to the festival tent. Its location directly on the water, with views of sailboats, the Bodden landscape, and the old thatched-roof houses of the village, makes the festival particularly scenic.
The Hafenfest is deliberately aimed at families and day-trippers arriving by ferry. A large treasure hunt with riddles and tasks leads children through the harbour area; small island souvenirs are made in a dedicated craft corner. A highlight for many are the demonstrations by the emergency services: sea rescuers, water police, and the fire brigade showcase their work, which takes on direct meaning on an island like Hiddensee.
Culinary delights at the Hafenfest are provided by Hiddensee's snack and restaurant businesses: bratwurst, jacket potatoes, fish rolls, and grilled seafood, crêpes and sweets, plus a bar with non-alcoholic cocktails and strawberry punch. Admission is free; payment is per stall.
The Hafenfest is one of the core events in the summer event calendar of the municipality Seebad Insel Hiddensee. It is organized jointly with the Hiddenseer Hafen- und Kurbetrieb and is also logistically designed for day-trippers — island buses run at more frequent intervals.
The Hafenfest Kloster 2026 is scheduled for Friday, July 24, 2026, starting at 1 PM in the Kloster sailing harbour. The organizers are the municipality Seebad Insel Hiddensee and the Hiddenseer Hafen- und Kurbetrieb. The programme includes the opening with a large treasure hunt for children, a craft corner for younger guests, and demonstrations by sea rescuers, the water police, and the fire brigade. Island businesses will provide grilled items, bratwurst, jacket potatoes, fish rolls, grilled seafood, crêpes, and sweets; a bar with non-alcoholic cocktails and strawberry punch will complement the offerings. Admission is free. Island buses will run at more frequent intervals; early arrival by ferry is recommended.
Detailed programme and times for demonstrations will be updated in the weeks leading up to the event on seebad-hiddensee.de.
