Open-air music festival on the Grüner Markt in Fürth's Old Town
The Grüne Nacht is Fürth's most popular summer festival. The Grüner Markt, the central market square in the Old Town between the town hall and the main train station, is flooded with green light installations for two festival days, immersing the already picturesque square and the surrounding half-timbered and sandstone buildings in an almost surreal atmosphere. The concept has been successful since its premiere: free live music, free admission, an urban audience from Fürth, Nuremberg, and the entire Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.
Each year, the line-up brings together a deliberately broad stylistic selection. Classic blues and melodic pop acts mingle with ska rhythms, energetic jazz, and rock. A specialty is the high-calibre tribute bands, who reproduce hits by Kiss, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses, and other rock giants so authentically that the audience in front of the stage collectively celebrates the stage attire of the respective stars.
The organiser is the association Der Grüne Markt e.V., a collective of artists, restaurateurs, and culture enthusiasts from Fürth's Old Town. The association members volunteer to organise stage setup, technical aspects, and programme planning. The event is financed through sponsors and revenue from food and drinks; admission remains deliberately free.
Fürth, the independent city in the Central Franconian triangle with Nuremberg and Erlangen, is known for its exceptional festival culture – above all for the Michaelis-Kirchweih, the 'Queen of Franconian Kirchweihen' (Kirchweih: a traditional folk festival). The Grüne Nacht complements this festival calendar with an urban-modern open-air format. Both events share a close connection to the historic Old Town and Franconian traditions, combined with contemporary music.
The 2026 edition of Grüne Nacht will once again bring together regional and national acts on the Grüner Markt in Fürth on the first weekend of July 2026. On the open-air stage, blues, rock, ska, jazz, and pop will alternate over two days, complemented by tribute bands interpreting hits from Kiss, Guns N’ Roses, or Def Leppard.
Both festival days start in the late afternoon and run until 10 PM. On Saturday evening, a fireworks display will mark the traditional closing point. The organiser is the association Der Grüne Markt e.V. Admission to the entire festival is free.
The Grüner Markt is located in the heart of Fürth's Old Town. Take the U-Bahn line U1 to the Rathaus or Fürth Hauptbahnhof station (3 minutes on foot). From Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof, take the S-Bahn (approx. 10 minutes). By car, take the A73 motorway; parking is available at the Stadthalle Fürth car park.
Admission to the Grüne Nacht is free.
Early July, Fridays and Saturdays from late afternoon until 10 PM.
