Germany's largest wine festival parade with over 100 floats and music groups — highlight of the German Wine Harvest Festival
The Großer Winzerfestumzug in Neustadt an der Weinstraße is Germany's largest wine festival parade and the absolute highlight of the German Wine Harvest Festival. With over 100 floats and music groups, tens of thousands of spectators, and a unique Palatinate festival atmosphere, it is one of the most important folk festivals in the Federal Republic.
The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. The parade tradition has been a central program point of the German Wine Harvest Festival for generations and concludes the two-week festival period with a spectacular climax.
The parade route leads through the entire Neustadt city center:
The total duration is about 90 minutes — a long procession for a dense program of floats, music groups, and festival contingents.
The Palatinate wine royalty and the newly crowned German Wine Majesties are presented on the magnificently decorated ornate floats. The wine royalty from the individual Palatinate wine villages — from Bad Dürkheim to Deidesheim to Maikammer — are presented on their own floats, as are the Palatinate Wine Queen and her princesses, as well as the German Wine Majesty, who was crowned on September 25.
The parade includes numerous themed floats: harvest motifs (grape harvest scenes with vintners and harvest helpers), historical scenes (Palatinate history), traditional costume floats (Palatinate folk dance, Kirchweih), and original club floats from all over the region. The floats are accompanied by music groups: Palatinate brass bands, drum corps, big bands, and pipe bands provide the musical accompaniment.
Anyone who wants to experience the parade should be there early — the best spots along Maximilianstraße are often occupied hours before the start. The Palatinate festival atmosphere with champagne glasses in hand and tens of thousands of cheerful spectators is unmistakable and an experience that should be seen once in a lifetime.
The 2026 edition of the Großer Winzerfestumzug forms the spectacular festival finale of the German Wine Harvest Festival. The detailed program for 2026 with a list of floats and music groups will be published by the organizer in the summer.
The event is part of the rich Palatinate festival culture, which attracts thousands of guests to the Neustadt an der Weinstraße region every year. The combination of wine culture, Palatinate hospitality, and established festival traditions forms the unmistakable identity of this Palatinate festival institution.
On the morning of October 11, 2026, over 100 floats and music groups will assemble in the side streets around Landauer Straße.
Begins at Landauer Straße from Moltkestraße. The first floats and music groups set off.
Landauer Straße — Talstraße — Kohlplatz — Ludwigstraße — Maximilianstraße — Corner of Wiesenstraße/Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. Maximilianstraße, as the Palatinate festival axis, offers the most spectacular atmosphere with the densest rows of spectators.
Over 100 floats featuring Palatinate wine royalty, newly crowned German Wine Majesties, themed floats on grape harvest, traditions, and Palatinate history. Several music groups: Palatinate brass bands, drum corps, big bands, pipe bands.
Official end at the corner of Wiesenstraße/Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. Afterwards, a relaxed festival conclusion in the city center with a Palatinate wine village and a funfair.
