About Landesmusikfest KL

On May 23rd and 24th, 2026, the Landesmusikfest Rhineland-Palatinate will bring together wind orchestras, youth ensembles, and soloists from across the entire state in Kaiserslautern. The State Music Association Rhineland-Palatinate celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, marking this milestone alongside Kaiserslautern's 750th city anniversary. Two central stages around the Stiftskirche and on Schillerplatz will become the vibrant heart of the city center, complemented by concerts in the Fruchthalle and smaller performance formats in the pedestrian zone. A weekend full of wind music, symphonic works, pop arrangements, and emerging ensembles awaits visitors from the entire West Palatinate region.

A State Festival of Music in Kaiserslautern

With the Landesmusikfest 2026, the State Music Association Rhineland-Palatinate honors five decades of voluntary musical work in the state. Hundreds of musicians from clubs, orchestras, big bands, and youth ensembles will travel to Kaiserslautern on May 23rd and 24th to make music together, exchange ideas, and inspire the audience. The choice of city was no accident: Kaiserslautern celebrates the 750th anniversary of its city rights in 2026, and the Landesmusikfest is a prominent element within the comprehensive anniversary program.

Two Stages in the Heart of the City

The focus of the festival weekend will be on two main stages, which will host performances concurrently. In front of the historic Stiftskirche, Kaiserslautern's oldest church, classical wind orchestras, brass choirs, and symphonic wind ensembles will perform. Schillerplatz will be the stage for younger, more experimental formats: big bands, brass ensembles, modern wind arrangements, and crossover projects. Strolling through the city center, visitors will experience the broad spectrum of Rhineland-Palatinate's music scene within minutes.

Fruchthalle and Gala Concert

Complementing the open-air stages, concerts will take place in the acoustically acclaimed Fruchthalle, the city's traditional concert hall. Here, selected top ensembles from the state will present sophisticated programs of symphonic wind music, chamber music for winds, and festive repertoire. The official gala concert celebrating the association's anniversary will form the sonic highlight of the weekend.

Focus on Emerging Talent

A special emphasis is placed on youth ensembles. The State Music Association has consistently supported youth development in its member clubs for five decades, and the Landesmusikfest offers young musicians a valuable platform in front of a broad audience. School orchestras, youth wind orchestras, and wind classes will feature in their own program blocks, demonstrating that the tradition of wind music in Rhineland-Palatinate has a vibrant future.
