Band competitions like SOUNDCHECK are an important bridge between the local music scene and a broad audience. GLEIS4 — A Cultural Centre with a Profile

GLEIS4 is Frankenthal's municipal cultural centre and an established stage in the region. It hosts concerts, readings, theatre performances, comedy nights, and cultural events of all kinds. The stage, sound technology, and audience are professional — ideal infrastructure for a band competition.

Various Genres

SOUNDCHECK is not limited to one genre. Rock, Pop, Indie, Singer-Songwriter, Hip-Hop, Electronic Music — all styles are welcome, provided the band is from the region and is in an early stage of their career. This openness to genres makes the competition exciting and representative of the musical diversity of the young scene.

Format and Judging

Typically, several bands perform one after another, each with a short set of 20–30 minutes. A jury of music experts, musicians, and audience representatives evaluates the performances based on criteria such as musical quality, originality, stage presence, and band concept. Often, there is also an audience award.

Prizes and Support

The winners usually receive a combination of financial prizes, studio recording time, performance opportunities at other GLEIS4 events, and media coverage. This support is often crucial for young bands in their further career development.

September Tradition

SOUNDCHECK traditionally takes place in September — at the transition from summer to autumn, when event activities in the cultural centres pick up again. The exact date for 2026 will be announced by the Kulturzentrum GLEIS4 in the summer.
