Family festival along the promenade from Harlesiel-Strand to Museumshafen Carolinensiel
The Carolinensieler Kindertag is not a classic stage festival, but a walkable day of experiences that deliberately utilizes the location's geography. The stations are lined up from Harlesiel on the coast, via the Cliner Quelle, to the historic Museumshafen Carolinensiel. Families can either walk from station to station all day or choose specific program points.
A broad network is behind this day: Carolinensiel-Harlesiel GmbH, Nationalpark-Haus, Protestant parish, Deutsches Sielhafenmuseum, German Red Cross, the childcare and educational service "kibi", and the Wattwanderzentrum (mudflat hiking center). Each of these institutions contributes its own strengths – nature education on the mudflats, museum programs at the harbor, sports and creative modules along the way.
The focus is on hands-on and experiential activities: small mudflat expeditions, creative workshops, rallies through the Sielhafenmuseum, first-aid stations with face painting, games, and movement activities. Older siblings and parents will also find stations where they can actively participate. The festival is deliberately accessible and aimed at both holiday guests and families from the Wittmund district.
The Kindertag falls in the middle of the summer holidays and is one of the few dates on which the entire Carolinensiel tourism infrastructure is integrated into a coordinated family day. For many repeat guests, it is a must-attend event – and not infrequently the reason to plan their holiday stay around this specific day.
In 2026, the Kindertag remains true to its decentralized concept. Instead of a central festival ground, Carolinensiel's natural attractions become program stations. Families choose their own pace – whether as an extended day trip or a targeted visit to individual highlights.
The strength of the festival lies in its collaboration: the tourism company, church, museums, social services, and nature education work together on a common day, creating a program that no single provider could offer on such a scale.
The exact program for 2026 with times and stations will be published by the organizer in spring/summer.
