4th Spring Reading – seven events over three days in two venues
The Göttingen Spring Reading was launched in 2023 as a compact spring festival to spread literary programming throughout the year and complement the traditional programme of the Literaturherbst in the spring. With only seven events over three days, the Spring Reading is deliberately kept concise. This focus on a few, carefully curated events allows festival visitors to experience the entire programme.
The organiser is the Literarisches Zentrum Göttingen in cooperation with the Göttinger Literaturherbst. This allows the Spring Reading to draw on the established structures, programming expertise, and network of Göttingen's largest literary organisers. This sponsorship ensures high programme quality, professional organisation, and good visibility in the German literary landscape.
The Sheddachhalle Göttingen is the larger of the two venues and is suitable for events with audiences of several hundred people. The Literarisches Zentrum (Literaturhaus) in the city centre offers an intimate setting for smaller readings, discussions, and literary performances. The use of two venues with different characteristics is part of the festival concept.
The complete programme for the 4th Spring Reading will be published on the website of the Literarisches Zentrum. The selection traditionally includes a mix of current fiction voices, poets, non-fiction discussions, and occasional literary-musical performances. The programming policy focuses on contemporary literature and addresses socially relevant topics.
Advance ticket sales for the Spring Reading 2026 begin on February 12th, 2026. Based on past experience, events with well-known headliners tend to sell out quickly. Early ticket purchase is recommended.
In its first three editions, the Spring Reading has established itself as a valuable addition to the established Literaturherbst. While the Autumn Reading is the large, broadly based literary festival, the Spring Reading focuses on concentrated programming with a few carefully selected events. This concept allows the audience to experience the entire programme.
The use of two venues with different characteristics – the larger Sheddachhalle and the more intimate Literaturhaus – provides suitable spaces for the respective event formats. Large events with well-known headliners take place in the Sheddachhalle, while smaller readings and discussions are held in the Literarisches Zentrum.
The complete 2026 programme will be published on the website of the Literarisches Zentrum before advance ticket sales begin. The structure:
