About Goldnetz Christmas Market

For many people in Berlin, Christmas also means buying gifts that their budget doesn't allow. This is exactly where Goldnetz's Social Christmas Market comes in. Since 2008, Goldnetz gGmbH has organized a market every December where toys, knitwear, jewelry, leather goods, and decorations are sold for very little money – but only to people who can prove their low income (Berlin Pass, citizen's allowance notification, pension notification). Since 2022 in Spandau, organized by a social workshop that helps long-term unemployed individuals return to the job market through craft activities.

What Goldnetz is

Goldnetz gGmbH is a Berlin-based educational and coaching provider focused on reintegration. In its social workshops, long-term unemployed individuals – the market makers*innen – produce sustainable, handmade products: knitwear, wooden toys, jewelry, leather goods, decorative items. These are distributed at the organization's social markets to people with low incomes – at prices that don't strain the budget.

The Christmas Market

Since 2008, Goldnetz has organized a Social Christmas Market every December. After many years in Charlottenburg, the market has been located in Spandau since 2022. The program includes around 30 stalls with toys, gifts, decorations, children's bicycles, and clothing – all from the Goldnetz workshops or partner organizations like Berliner Tafel and Kulturloge Berlin. There's also live entertainment with choirs, small concerts, and a big raffle for children. Food and drinks include homemade pastries, sausages, and children's punch.

Eligibility Requirements

Unlike regular Christmas markets, the Goldnetz market is not open to everyone. Admission is free, but those who wish to purchase items must be able to prove their eligibility: Berlin Pass, citizen's allowance notification, pension notification, or proof of income (monthly net income below €1,074) along with an ID card. This may sound bureaucratic, but it ensures that the social mission is protected against bargain-hunting tourism.

Location and District

The market has been held in Spandau since 2022, traditionally on the former Bosch site at Zitadellenweg 34. District of Spandau, in the northwest of Berlin. The exact location for 2026 will be announced by Goldnetz in late autumn. Berlin, State of Berlin.

Goldnetz Christmas Market — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Goldnetz Social Christmas Market in Spandau is expected to take place on a Saturday in December 2026. The exact date and locations (two locations for the first time in 2025) will be announced by Goldnetz in late autumn 2026 on the association's website. Free admission, purchases only with proof of income limit.
