Christmas gifts for low-income individuals
Goldnetz gGmbH is a Berlin-based educational and coaching provider focused on reintegration. In its social workshops, long-term unemployed individuals β the market makers*innen β produce sustainable, handmade products: knitwear, wooden toys, jewelry, leather goods, decorative items. These are distributed at the organization's social markets to people with low incomes β at prices that don't strain the budget.
Since 2008, Goldnetz has organized a Social Christmas Market every December. After many years in Charlottenburg, the market has been located in Spandau since 2022. The program includes around 30 stalls with toys, gifts, decorations, children's bicycles, and clothing β all from the Goldnetz workshops or partner organizations like Berliner Tafel and Kulturloge Berlin. There's also live entertainment with choirs, small concerts, and a big raffle for children. Food and drinks include homemade pastries, sausages, and children's punch.
Unlike regular Christmas markets, the Goldnetz market is not open to everyone. Admission is free, but those who wish to purchase items must be able to prove their eligibility: Berlin Pass, citizen's allowance notification, pension notification, or proof of income (monthly net income below β¬1,074) along with an ID card. This may sound bureaucratic, but it ensures that the social mission is protected against bargain-hunting tourism.
The market has been held in Spandau since 2022, traditionally on the former Bosch site at Zitadellenweg 34. District of Spandau, in the northwest of Berlin. The exact location for 2026 will be announced by Goldnetz in late autumn. Berlin, State of Berlin.
