Underground Metal in the Oberlausitz
The Godless Mountain Open Air – GM-OA for short – is a young metal festival in the Oberlausitz region. Held in the Commerau (Klix) district of the Großdubrau municipality in the Bautzen district, the two-day festival has carved out its own niche in the German festival landscape since 2021: deliberately small, deliberately underground, deliberately promoting newcomer acts.
Ambition: Listening Pleasure for Metalheads
The festival organizers clearly state their ambition: a "listening pleasure for metalheads and lovers of handmade music". This means:
- Diversity of metal subgenres: Black, Death, Thrash, Doom, Pagan, Folk Metal, among others.
- Conscious promotion of newcomer bands – applications via the festival website.
- A mix of established underground headliners and up-and-coming acts.
- Compact festival atmosphere with two days of programming.
Klix and Großdubrau
Klix, a district of Großdubrau, is located north of Bautzen, on the edge of the Sorbian settlement areas. Here, in a landscape of forests and ponds, the festival sets up its grounds. Großdubrau in the Bautzen district is a Sorbian-German municipality that has become an unusual tourist magnet thanks to the annual metal festival.
Camping and Atmosphere
Camping is usually included in the ticket. The festival cultivates a family-like atmosphere – festival guests, organizers, and bands meet on equal footing. Anyone involved in the German metal underground has the GM-OA on their radar.
Godless Mountain Open Air — edition 2026
The 2026 edition continues the festival's ambition: a weekend for lovers of handmade metal music with a clear focus on underground and newcomer acts. Multiple stages, on-site camping, and a family-like atmosphere at the Commerau festival grounds.
Programme Godless Mountain Open Air 2026
The complete lineup will be announced on the festival website and social media channels. The festival maintains an open application phase for newcomer bands. Based on experience, a program of about 15–20 bands can be expected, spread over two days:
- Friday, June 12 — Openings in the afternoon, first headliners in the evening.
- Saturday, June 13 — Full stage program until late at night.
- Multiple stages with different focuses (Black, Death, Folk/Pagan).
- Camping included in the ticket.
