All-day village festival in Jockgrim with club catering, family program, and musical accompaniment
The Gockelfest Jockgrim is part of the rich festival culture of the Jockgrim administrative district on the Upper Rhine in Southern Palatinate. Jockgrim itself, with around 7,000 inhabitants, is the largest municipality in the district and has cultivated a vibrant club culture for generations. The Gockelfest is organized jointly by the local clubs and the municipal administration and follows the tradition of village summer festivals, through which clubs fill their coffers while simultaneously fostering community spirit.
The festival is designed as an all-day event: from morning until late evening, catering is provided in the festival square, a continuous stage program ensures entertainment, and a children's program involves families. Unlike the larger Kirchweih (church fair), the character is more manageable and decidedly village-like.
Classic Palatinate fare: Bratwurst, steak, fries, Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), salads, coffee, and cake in the afternoon. Accompanied by Palatinate beer on tap, Palatinate wine, and Schorle (wine mixed with sparkling water). The clubs take turns catering – sports club, fire department, music club, possibly the carnival club or the women's association.
For the children, there are games, a bouncy castle, craft activities, and occasional performances by local youth groups. In the afternoon and evening, the Jockgrim Music Club or guest ensembles perform on stage.
