Celebration for the completion of the renovation of the bell tower of the late Gothic St. Johannes Church
The Glockenturmfest 2026 marks a special moment for the Seester parish: the completion of the multi-year renovation work on the bell tower of the late Gothic St. Johannes Church. The church is the center of village life — and the bell tower has shaped the village image for centuries. With the festival on June 21, 2026, the community wants to celebrate the successful restoration together with donors, craftspeople, and residents.
The late Gothic St. Johannes Church in Seester is one of the oldest preserved sacred buildings in the Pinneberg district. With its characteristic bell tower and its location nestled between the parsonage and the village center, it forms the historical heart of Seester. The church is a listed building and has been carefully restored for years. The bell tower — which has shown the most obvious signs of renovation deficit so far — will be returned to a condition worthy of its historical original upon completion of the work in 2026.
Seester is a small community in the south of the Pinneberg district, about 25 kilometers west of Hamburg and 10 kilometers north of Wedel. The community is located in the Haseldorfer Marsch — a flat marsh landscape crisscrossed by watercourses, which has been diked and cultivated since the Middle Ages. With around 1,200 inhabitants, Seester is typical of the small marsh villages in the southern Pinneberg district. The St. Johannes Church is the landmark of the community — and the Glockenturmfest 2026 is an occasion for the entire village to honor the centuries-old church.
The Seester parish is planning the Glockenturmfest 2026 as the central festival day of the year. Detailed program points will be published in the months leading up to the event. Expected are a festive church service, a communal gathering on the church square, a ceremony honoring the craftspeople and patrons involved in the renovation, and a program for children and families.
Upon completion of the renovation in 2026, the bell tower will be restored to a condition worthy of the late Gothic original of the St. Johannes Church. The festival aims to honor all contributors — from the German Foundation for Monument Protection to church and state sponsors, as well as private donors and volunteers.
