Glass, Folk Music, and Culinary Delights in the Gläserne Gärten
In the Bavarian Forest, on the border with the Czech Republic, glassmaking has a tradition dating back to the 12th century. The quartz sand soil, the dense forests for fuel, and the water-powered mills have created a glassmaking region over centuries, whose heritage can be experienced today on the 250-kilometer-long Bavarian Glass Route — a tourist vacation route from Neustadt an der Waldnaab via Bodenmais and Zwiesel to Passau.
Frauenau in the Regen district is one of the most important stops on the Glass Route. It is home to the Frauenau Glass Museum, the renowned Eisch Glass Manufactory, the Gläserne Gärten (Glass Gardens), and several other studios. The Gläserne Gärten is an openly accessible open-air area with glass art objects — the perfect backdrop for the Glasstraßenfest.
Visitors to the Glasstraßenfest can extend their stay meaningfully: The Frauenau Glass Museum (one of Europe's most important glass museums), the Bavarian Forest National Park (gateway to the wilderness in the Lusen area, about a 15-minute drive away), and the glass town of Zwiesel (12 km away) are all within easy reach.
The date and location details have been officially confirmed by the Eastern Bavaria Tourism Association. The 18th Glasstraßenfest will run on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM in the Gläserne Gärten in Frauenau. It is one of the most important thematic festivals of the Bavarian Glass Route — the 250 km long holiday route between Neustadt an der Waldnaab and Passau.
Glassmakers along the Glass Route will present live demonstrations, showcase their latest works, and sell them directly on-site. The program is complemented by folk music and traditional costume performances from the Bavarian Forest, as well as a diverse culinary offering.
