Event Day Schedule
10:00 AM Start area opens, 10:15 AM joint warm-up, 11:00 AM start. No timing, no bib numbers — everyone runs as many laps as they like and can manage. Afterwards, program on the main stage.
A Car-Free Altstadtring for Solidarity
The Giro di Monaco is an extraordinary event in the Munich calendar: Once a year, the busy Altstadtring — Munich's ring road around the historic city center — is completely closed to car traffic and transformed into a 5-kilometer running course. Thousands of runners complete laps together, entirely without a competitive character: no timing, no bib numbers, no rankings.
Charity for Bellevue di Monaco
The event is organized by the Munich social cooperative Bellevue di Monaco — a non-profit aid project for young refugees, which has drawn attention in recent years with prominent campaigns. The proceeds from the Giro di Monaco go to the aid projects of Bellevue di Monaco. The fundraising goal for 2026: €125,000.
Motto 2026: »Diversity instead of Simplicity«
Each edition of the Giro has its own motto. In 2026, it is »Diversity instead of Simplicity« — a clear political commitment to the openness of Munich's society. The concept of inclusion is also built into the format: »everyone can participate«, whether slow or fast, athletic or leisurely, resident or tourist.
Route
The circuit runs clockwise around the entire Altstadtring — Lenbachplatz, Karolinenplatz, Karlsplatz/Stachus, Sendlinger-Tor-Platz, Isartorplatz, Maxmonument, Odeonsplatz — and returns to the start line. Distance: approx. 5 kilometers, elevation gain: only 8 meters. The course is therefore suitable for all fitness levels.
Atmosphere and Music
The Giro is not just a run — it's a city festival. Regional artists perform on the main stage: in 2026, including Hannes Ringlstetter & Band and Gündalein. There will also be surprise acts. The patron Dominik Krause (Deputy Mayor of Munich) will open the event.
5th Edition
The Giro di Monaco was first held in 2022. The 2026 edition is the 5th edition — in just a few years, the event has established itself as a fixture in Munich's spring calendar and has become one of the city's largest charity events.
