Evening event at the Ostmühle in Gildehaus with lighting and socialising on May 9, 2026
The Ostmühle in Gildehaus is one of the most famous landmarks in the Grafschaft Bentheim. The over 250-year-old windmill sits enthroned on the Mühlenberg and shapes the village's appearance, visible from afar.
While Mill Day on Whit Monday and the Baking and Mill Festival in September are the major dates, the Mühlenabend is a smaller, more intimate event that showcases the technical monument in a different light – literally, in the spring evening light.
As the sun sets and the mill is bathed in evening light, a special atmosphere is created. Catering, musical contributions, or readings can accompany the programme. The exact programme details for 2026 will be published by the organiser.
The VVV Gildehaus is a volunteer association that maintains the Ostmühle and organises the annual events. Its commitment not only preserves the technical monument but also the tradition of the mill being a vibrant place for community interaction.
The Gildehauser Mühlenabend takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The date falls before the major German Mill Day on Whit Monday and thus serves as the season opener for the annual mill events.
The Mill Evening is the more intimate version of Gildehaus mill culture, followed by German Mill Day and the big Baking and Mill Festival in September.
The complete 2026 programme will be published by VVV Gildehaus via the Grafschaft Bentheim Tourism website.
