Four Days of Music in the Steigerwald
Since its premiere in 2024, the Gerolzhöfer Summer Opening has been the most important open-air season opener in the Franconian Steigerwald. For four consecutive days, the agency GEO kommunikativ transforms the Spitalgarten in Gerolzhofen (Schulgasse 2) into a concert garden with a distinct profile: three evening tribute concerts plus a large free open-air day with two stages.
Tribute Strategy and Free Open-Air
The festival's dramaturgy is clear: Thursday, Friday, and Sunday focus on tribute acts with their own following – the first evening traditionally features an opulently staged tribute, while Sunday offers an acoustic, chamber music format to round things off. In between, on Saturday, is the free-entry Summer Opening Festival 'Umsonst & Draußen' (Free & Outdoors) around the Bürgerspital. Two stages will feature rock, pop, rap, punk, and nu-metal, along with food trucks, sustainability workshops, graffiti sessions, and LARP offerings.
Gerolzhofen and the Spitalgarten
Gerolzhofen is located in the Schweinfurt district between Würzburg and Schweinfurt, on the edge of the Steigerwald and in the heart of the Franconian wine region. The Spitalgarten at the former Bürgerspital is a historic area in the city center – with its walls, trees, and manageable size, it's an ideal open-air venue.
Organizers and Profile
The agency GEO kommunikativ, based in the Spitalgarten, is responsible for organizing the festival together with the city of Gerolzhofen. The profile: 'Versatility and quality, accessible and at a high level' – a conscious differentiation from pure cover band events or large festivals.

Program Lines of the Third Edition
The Summer Opening 2026 consists of four evenings/days with clearly defined content. Thursday and Friday offer two very different paid tribute concerts, Saturday is the big free open-air day, and Sunday concludes with an acoustic format.
Advance ticket sales are available through the Gerolzhofen Tourist Information and the Reservix portal. Paid concerts start at 7:00 PM (doors open at 6:00 PM).

Getting There
Gerolzhofen is located on the B286, about 25 km east of Schweinfurt and 35 km northeast of Würzburg. The Spitalgarten is within walking distance of the city center. By train: Würzburg Hbf or Schweinfurt Hbf, then bus/car.

Advance sales through the Gerolzhofen Tourist Information or online via Reservix. Ticket prices vary per concert evening (see program). The free open-air day on Saturday is free of charge.
