The Berenberg German Polo Masters Sylt is Germany's northernmost polo tournament and a social highlight of the Sylt high season. Polo on Sylt — A Tradition Since 1998

What began as an idea by polo player Christopher Kirsch in 1998 is now one of Germany's most prestigious polo tournaments: the Berenberg German Polo Masters Sylt. The tournament is part of the national German Polo Tour and is considered the country's northernmost polo location. The organizer is the Polo Club Sylt, which, under the direction of Kiki Schneider, brings international top players and horses to the island year after year.

Playing Field, Horses, Teams

The playing field in Keitum covers approximately 28,000 m² — the size of four football fields. Over 120 Argentine horses — the preferred breed for polo — are flown in for the tournament. They reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. Six teams compete against each other, each comprising four players of various international origins.

The Novelties of 2026

Several premieres characterize the 2026 edition:

  • BMW becomes the new official automotive partner
  • Pony Club Kampen — the legendary beach bar classic — becomes the new team sponsor and host of the Players Party
  • Swiss Team participating for the first time, led by Ann-Kathrin Braendle, with Nicolas Rogerson and top Argentine player Manuel Carranza
  • Return of Lukas Sdrenka, a native of Sylt and now a coach at Düsseldorf Polo Club
  • Carlton Hotel St. Moritz as a partner — the symbolic connection between summer polo (Sylt) and winter polo (St. Moritz)

Lifestyle Mile

What distinguishes the German Polo Masters from a pure sports event is the parallel lifestyle and shopping mile of pagoda tents on the sidelines. Fashion, jewelry, cosmetics (Clé de Peau Beauté as a partner), sports, and lifestyle brands present themselves — the audience consists of regular Sylt guests, Hamburg society, and international polo fans.

Excitement of 2025 as a Benchmark

The 2025 edition ended with a dramatic final: Lucid Motors (the Californian electric car brand) narrowly won 7:6 against Zuckerhut & Matterhorn. The Berenberg team secured bronze with a 6:3.5 victory over Clé de Peau Beauté. In 2026, the teams aim to replicate this high level of excitement.

Island of Sylt in the District of Nordfriesland

Sylt is Germany's northernmost North Sea island and belongs to the Nordfriesland district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Keitum is located in the east of the island — known for its thatched-roof cottages, Frisian farm gardens, and the nearby bay. The polo location harmoniously integrates into the island's high-season programs and is considered a social highlight of the Sylt summer weeks.

German Polo Masters — edition 2026

The Berenberg German Polo Masters Sylt 2026 will take place from July 29 to August 2 at the Keitum Polo Field. Six teams, over 120 Argentine horses, 28,000 m² playing field. Premieres in 2026: Swiss team under Ann-Kathrin Braendle, BMW as new automotive partner, Players Party at Pony Club Kampen. Admission €15–€25.

The 2026 Edition

From July 29 to August 2, 2026, Polo Club Sylt will host its international top tournament in Keitum. The edition is confirmed by poloplus10.com and the Polo Club Sylt website. Six teams will compete, and the sporting program includes preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and final days.

Swiss Debut Participation

For the first time in 2026, a Swiss team under Ann-Kathrin Braendle, featuring Nicolas Rogerson and top Argentine player Manuel Carranza, will make its debut. This internationalization expands the already multilingual participant structure that has characterized the tournament for years.

Players Party at Pony Club Kampen

A premiere of particular symbolic significance: the Players Party will be held for the first time in 2026 at the legendary Pony Club Kampen — the beach bar considered a social landmark of Sylt. Tom Kinders' establishment thus connects polo sport with Sylt tradition.
