German Mill Day Rhauderfehn (3 Mills)

Three Mills, One Municipality

Rhauderfehn, as a classic East Frisian fen municipality, is closely linked to mill tradition. With the mills in Rhaude, Burlage, and Hahnentange, the municipality boasts three historic mills that are preserved today as technical monuments and maintained by the local mill association. On Whit Monday, German Mill Day, all three open their doors.

Baking Demonstrations and Tours

The focus of the Mill Day programs is on baking demonstrations — freshly baked bread from mill flour is a typical experience. In addition, members of the mill association will guide visitors through the facilities, explaining the technology and history, and answering questions. Musical contributions from regional groups complement the program.

Mill Tour

Those who wish to combine the three mills can visit them on a mill tour by bike or car. The short distances within the municipality of Rhauderfehn make such a tour feasible — and it combines the Mill Day visit with an exploration of the characteristic fen landscape.

Organizers and Admission

The event is organized by the municipality of Rhauderfehn in cooperation with the local mill associations. Admission is free. Exact program and opening hours for individual mills will be communicated via the event calendar of Ostfriesland-Rhauderfehn.
