Whit Monday as Mill Day

The German Mill Day was initiated in 1994 by the German Society for Millkunde and Mill Preservation and takes place annually on Whit Monday. On this day, hundreds of historic mills nationwide open their doors to make the history, technology, and significance of mill culture tangible. East Frisia is also prominently represented with numerous wind and water mills.

Neermoor Mill

The Neermoor Mill is one of the characteristic mills in the Neermoor district of the municipality of Moormerland. It symbolically represents the centuries-old tradition of East Frisian milling and is a living technical monument today. On Mill Day, members of the Mill Association give tours through the mill, explain the mechanical processes, demonstrate grinding, and answer questions about the mill's history.

Supporting Program

The guided tours are accompanied by gastronomic offerings with coffee and homemade cake, with bread from its own bakery and regional specialties. Musical contributions from regional music groups round off the program. Families will find an accessible program that combines history and conviviality.

In the East Frisian Mill Network

The Neermoor Mill is part of the dense mill network of East Frisia. On Mill Day, visitors have the opportunity to combine several mills in the Leer district in a day trip – for example, in Rhauderfehn or Holtland, which also participate in the program.
