Late Summer Format on Platz An der Lilie
As the Citybeach experiences its last days at the end of August and summer slowly transitions into late summer, the Genuss- und Weintage take over Platz An der Lilie. The atmosphere is different from the May wine festivals: cooler evenings, a quieter mood in the city, an audience that uses the late summer for sophisticated enjoyment evenings.
Wine from German Wine Regions
As at the May wine festival, vintners and wine merchants from various German wine regions are represented – Mosel, Rheingau, Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Franken, and others. In late summer, white wines take center stage for the harvest season, along with early Federweißer (young wine) and the first Sturm (fermenting wine) variations. With cooler evening temperatures, red wine specialties and more robust vintages are also in greater demand.
Gourmet Market as a Companion
The Genussmarkt is what distinguishes the Genuss- und Weintage from a pure wine festival. Manufacturers and producers present their products: artisanal cheeses from the Hildesheim region, sausages from local butchers, bread and baked goods from craft bakeries, jams and chutneys, honey from regional beekeepers, olive oils and Mediterranean specialties, chocolate manufacturers, mustard, vinegars, pickled vegetables. This mix of wine and matching foods creates a distinctly culinary atmosphere.
Four Days of Program
The format extends from Thursday to Sunday. Thursday and Sunday have a quieter character, while Friday and Saturday are the busiest days with a denser stage program. Musically, acoustic sets, jazz trios, and singer-songwriters dominate, accompanying conversations without overpowering them.
Free Admission
Admission is free; you only pay for what you consume at the wine and gourmet stands. Deposit glasses are usually mandatory. Those who want to try several wines benefit from the comparison at the different stands.
Refined Atmosphere
The Genuss- und Weintage have the character of an open, well-stocked wine bar in the urban space. High tables, small seating areas, light installations, and the architecture of Platz An der Lilie create a setting that is equally suitable for an after-work meeting, a family evening, or a longer weekend visit.
