Kirchweih in the Diocese of Würzburg
The Kirchweih, known as 'Kärwa' in Franconia, is one of the most important festivals of the village year. In Gaukönigshofen, it is celebrated according to the tradition of the Diocese of Würzburg on the second Sunday in November. The patron saints of the parish church are the Holy Guardian Angels and Saint James the Greater.
Kirchweih Procession and Kirchweih Sunday
The Kirchweih procession on Saturday evening, which leads through the village with brass music and festive decorations, marks the start. On Kirchweih Sunday, the celebratory church service is the focus, followed by a social day with brass music from the Gaukönigshofen Music Association, catering, and village get-togethers.

Gaukönigshofer Kärwa — edition 2026
The 2026 Kirchweih begins on Saturday, November 7th, with the Kirchweih procession at 6:00 PM, which winds through the town center with brass music. On Kirchweih Sunday, November 8th – the second Sunday in November according to the tradition of the Diocese of Würzburg – the celebratory church service is the highlight, followed by a social day with the Gaukönigshofen Music Association, catering, and village gatherings.
