Pottery and Handicrafts on Cathedral Square
The Merseburg Rabenmarkt is a registered trademark of Anke and Steffen Schmidt – a market that offers the entire range of what the Central German craft scene has to offer. The spring edition 2026 will take place on Saturday, March 28th and Sunday, March 29th on Merseburg Cathedral Square – one of the most beautiful market squares in the region, directly in front of the Imperial Cathedral with its famous Ladegast organ.
What is sold here is handmade goods from workshops, studios, and farms. Master potters from Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Thuringia, and Brandenburg present their ceramics – from functional ceramics to art ceramics, often directly from the pottery workshops in Brandenburg, Saxony, or Thuringia. In addition, there are wood turners, textile designers, jewelry makers, leather goods, and basket weavers. And – this is the strength of the Rabenmarkt – regional direct producers with wine, cheese, and sausage: the Jens Eckner winery, the Huffziger gastro team, and other vendors provide culinary accompaniment.
The Duo Liedfass, a well-known live format with traditional Central German music, provides musical accompaniment. Admission is free; the market is financed by the participating exhibitors themselves. Recommendation: Come on both days; Saturday offers the full market bustle with all stalls, while Sunday is a bit quieter and allows more time for browsing.
Merseburg is the district town of the Saalekreis district in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. Those who are in the region in spring anyway can combine the Rabenmarkt with a visit to the Imperial Cathedral (guided tours of the Ladegast organ are offered) and a walk along the Saale river.
