Neighborhood festival around the Froschbrunnen in western Frankfurt
The Froschbrunnen (Frog Fountain) at the corner of Klosterhofstraße / Welschgrabenstraße is the unmistakable landmark of Frankfurt-Zeilsheim. The small bronze frog figure has sat there for decades and gives the annual neighborhood festival its name. The Froschbrunnenfest is the day of the year when Zeilsheim celebrates itself – not a tourist festival, not a promotional spectacle, but genuine club life from western Frankfurt.
The organizer is the Vereinsring Zeilsheim e.V., an umbrella organization of clubs in the district. From the ski club to the fire department, from the carnival club to the church communities, from the SPD local association to the sports clubs – everyone sets up stalls and serves food. This structure ensures culinary diversity: Bratwurst and schnitzel alongside Syrian specialties alongside Hessian home cooking alongside coffee and cake. Exactly what a good neighborhood festival needs.
Zeilsheim is located in the far west of Frankfurt, between Höchst and the city limits of the Main-Taunus district. With around 12,000 inhabitants, it's a classic suburban district with a village identity – a former industrial area of the dye works, today a residential town with a single-family home character and multi-generational structures. The district has a strong club culture, which the Froschbrunnenfest makes directly visible: a dozen or more stalls, not supplied by caterers, but by club members who do it on a voluntary basis.
From the late afternoon, a live band plays on the small stage at the Froschbrunnen. In recent years, various cover bands from the Frankfurt area have been engaged, playing hits from five decades of pop and rock. A children's program runs concurrently in the afternoon.
The Froschbrunnenfest is embedded in a longer concert series called "Freitags am Frosch" (Fridays at the Frog): From June to September, bands and solo artists perform for free at the fountain on several Friday evenings. The neighborhood festival on June 13th is the largest and most diverse event in this series, but anyone in Zeilsheim during the summer can also stop by on one of the "normal" Frog Fridays.
