Friedrichsberg Meets Street Culture

Friedrichsberg is one of the most vibrant districts in Schleswig, the historic town on the Schlei fjord in the north of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Located directly south of the old town, Friedrichsberg is a diverse neighborhood with a long tradition as a market, craft, and residential area. The Frie:Da festival aims to make this diversity visible.

What to Expect

Frie:Da combines classic neighborhood festival elements with distinct cultural-political accents:

• Street Art — Performances, acrobatics, music open air on Friedrichsberg Market Square
• Flea Market along Friedrichstraße — Registration via the City of Schleswig (email [email protected])
• Stands of local associations and initiatives — Education, democracy, inclusion
• Concerts and stage program — from singer-songwriters to bands from Schleswig and the surrounding area
• Gastronomy with international and North German specialties
• Family activities and hands-on workshops

Cultural-Political Mission

The festival is explicitly designed as a contribution to dialogue and democracy. Frie:Da is funded by the Partnership for Democracy Schleswig-Flensburg (Federal program 'Democracy Live!') and the Amadeu Antonio Foundation. The message: cultural diversity, social cohesion, and lived dialogue belong on the street — and on the market square.

Baltic Cultural Pearl Year 2026

In 2026, Frie:Da will also serve as the opening event for the 'Baltic Cultural Pearl Year 2026' — a themed year focusing on the cultural connections around the Baltic Sea.
