Free film classics on Tuesdays in Weinbergspark
Weinbergspark in the Mitte district of the eponymous borough is one of the greenest retreats in Berlin's city center – a small park with old trees, rose beds, and a distinctive café in the pavilion. It's precisely there, at Weinbergsweg 13, that "Freiluftkino im Rosengarten" has been running for years. The operator is Rosengarten e.V., which also runs the cultural pavilion in the park. This makes the cinema a neighborhood-run project – with a correspondingly personal character.
The program is curated, not commercial: film classics from cinema history, carefully selected arthouse productions, documentaries, festival highlights, and films from the Amnesty International program. Many are shown in their original language with subtitles – the audience in Berlin-Mitte is international, which is reflected in the schedule. Season start 2026: May 19th with "30 Jahre an der Peitsche", followed on May 26th by "Desire will set you free".
Unlike the large open-air cinemas in Berlin (Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Hasenheide), which run daily with commercial programming, Rosengarten is limited to one evening per week: always Tuesdays, always at dusk (in summer from around 9 PM, earlier in spring and autumn). Seating is cushioned; in spring and autumn, the pavilion provides woolen blankets. Wine, beer, and hot drinks are available from the café.
The admission policy is that of a donation-based event: free, but with the reminder that donations keep the operation alive. Anyone looking for a summer evening in Berlin that isn't loud, expensive, or overcrowded will find a rare opportunity here. In case of rain, the screening is canceled – information is available on the pavilion's Instagram and Facebook pages.
The 2026 summer season of the Rosengarten cinema begins on Tuesday, May 19th, and typically runs until September, weather permitting. The venue is the cultural pavilion in Weinbergspark, Berlin-Mitte. Free admission, donations in the hat are welcome.
The film selection is curated by the Rosengarten team: film classics, arthouse, documentaries, films from the Amnesty International program, occasional festival highlights – often in their original language with subtitles. In case of rain, the screening is canceled. Updates are posted on the pavilion's social media channels.
Every Tuesday until approximately the end of September 2026. The full weekly program is continuously published on rosengarten-berlin.de/kulturprogramm, on Instagram (@rosengarten_kulturpavillon), and on Facebook.
U-Bahn U8 to Rosenthaler Platz (300 m walk). Tram M1, M8, 12, or 18 to Rosenthaler Platz or Brunnenstraße. Bus 142 or N40. By bike directly to the park.
Free. Donations in the hat are expressly welcome and finance the pavilion's operation.
In spring and autumn, bring a blanket – although woolen blankets are provided, they are limited. In rainy weather, be sure to check Instagram/Facebook: the screening may be canceled.
