Marzahn celebrates itself
Marzahn hasn't always had an easy time in Berlin's self-perception – the district is often seen by many as a "prefabricated housing district," although it is actually one of Berlin's most diverse neighborhoods: high-rise settlements from GDR times alongside village-like parts, the expansive Gärten der Welt park, Biesdorf Palace, many young families, and a growing local economy. The Traditional Spring Festival Marzahn at Barnimplatz is one of the young Berlin district festival initiatives that aim to make this diversity visible – and the 2026 edition is only the second one ever.
Two days, one square, lots of programming
The festival runs on the weekend of March 7th/8th, 2026:
- Saturday, March 7th — 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM: the main day with showmen, street food, live acts on stage, entertainment for children, and an evening program that extends into the night.
- Sunday, March 8th — 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM: the family day with the big flea market highlight starting in the late morning, plus rides and street food stalls.
Host: Susanne Gontard alias MC FUN
The stage program is hosted by Susanne Gontard, better known in Berlin as MC FUN – one of the most experienced district festival hosts in the capital, who has been hosting stages at municipal festivals, utility company events, and district events for years. With her Berlin charm and experience in dealing with mixed audiences, she holds the program together and ensures the necessary entertainment between acts.
Marzahn-Hellersdorf LIVE as organizer
Behind the festival is Marzahn-Hellersdorf LIVE – a local district portal and event team that has established several festival formats in the district in recent years. The Spring Festival is one of their most ambitious projects: an attempt to give the district its own season-opening festival, which oscillates in character between a Volksfest (public festival), flea market, and district festival. The first edition in 2025 was successful – the 2026 edition builds on this and establishes the format as an annual recurring event.
