One of Northern Germany's largest spring Volksfeste on the Schützenplatz with beer tents, rides, and three fireworks displays
The Schützenplatz at Bruchmeisterallee is one of Germany's most traditional Volksfest locations. Several Volksfeste take place here annually – besides the Frühlingsfest, there's the famous Schützenfest Hannover in early July (one of the world's largest) and the Oktoberfest Hannover. The Frühlingsfest kicks off the Hannover season after winter and is considered an important start signal for the warmer months.
The selection of rides and stalls is extensive, ranging from classic children's attractions, a Ferris wheel, and carousels to modern high-tech rides for adrenaline junkies. Examples include: Giant Octopus, Wave Flyer, Bumper Cars, Haunted House, High-Rise Ride, Looping Coaster, Swing Boat, Funhouse, Children's Carousels, Arcade, Shooting Gallery, Ring Toss, Candy Stand. Some attractions are long-established and have been part of the Frühlingsfest for decades, while others are new and mark the season's premieres.
Several large beer tents offer classic Volksfest cuisine and draft beer: Hannoversches Pils, Wernesgrüner, regional specialty beers. The menus feature pork knuckles, schnitzel, wild boar roast with red cabbage and dumplings, bratwurst variations, fries with all sauces, potato salads, cheese platters, and vegetarian and vegan alternatives. Sweets like Schmalzkuchen, crêpes, candy apples, almonds, and gingerbread hearts complete the offering.
The highlight of the Frühlingsfest are the three fireworks displays on the three festival Fridays, April 10th, 17th, and 24th – each at 9:45 PM. The approximately 20-minute shows are synchronized to music, utilize the full height of the sky above the Schützenplatz, and attract thousands of spectators. Those who want a good spot should arrive early.
On weekdays from late afternoon and on weekends from noon, the rides and beer tents open. Families can find more affordable prices during the day (family days with reduced prices are published by the organizer), while evenings bring a party atmosphere with live music, DJ sets, and exuberant Volksfest cheer. The combination of a traditional family Volksfest and an urban evening experience is what makes the Frühlingsfest so appealing.
The Schützenplatz is easily accessible by tram (lines 3, 7, 9), just 10 minutes from the main train station. Parking in the surrounding area is limited; public transport is recommended.
