Europe's largest leather and fetish festival in Schöneberg
Inspired by the legendary "Folsom Street Fair" in San Francisco – the world's largest BDSM and leather event – a group of Berlin activists founded the European sister event under the name FOLSOM Europe in 2004. The venue: the traditional gay quarter around Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg, which has been the center of queer Berlin history since the 1920s and is considered a "rainbow-colored quarter" in memory of Christopher Isherwood and the Goodbye Berlin era. Within a few years, the festival grew into the largest of its kind in Europe and now attracts guests from the USA, Australia, Latin America, Asia, and all parts of Europe.
At the heart of the festival are two days of open street festival on Fuggerstraße and Welserstraße, directly at Wittenbergplatz/Nollendorfplatz. Admission is free, and the spectrum ranges from leather gear, BDSM accessories, and fetish fashion to sex-positivity workshops, community info booths, and HIV prevention. Live music, DJ sets, and performances frame the event. The open street – unlike many similar festivals held indoors – makes FOLSOM Europe a statement of visibility.
A dense party program unfolds around the street festival, spread across several Berlin clubs. Seven official events are curated by the organizer: ADAM on Thursday, TESTOSTERONE and BEAR DANCE FOLSOM on Friday, PIG after the street festival on Saturday, ANIMALZ on Saturday night, BI-PLUS CONSEXUAL, and finally the Sunday closing party RECON BERLIN. Each party has its own musical flavor and subculture focus.
FOLSOM Europe is explicitly designed as a festival and not just a party weekend. The program includes Puppy Games and a Puppy Walk (for the growing "Pup" community), sightseeing buses through queer Berlin, and boat tours on the Spree. In addition, there are numerous unofficial bar events in Schöneberg's local pubs that accompany the festival and turn the weekend into an entire festival week.
Welserstraße and Fuggerstraße are located in the middle of Schöneberg's historic gay Kiez, which has been Berlin's gay center since the 1920s – as described by Christopher Isherwood in "Goodbye to Berlin." Nollendorfplatz, with its memorial plaque for homosexual victims of National Socialism, and the numerous bars on Motzstraße form the natural backdrop for FOLSOM. The event thus stands in a tradition of queer Berlin spanning over a hundred years.
The 22nd edition of FOLSOM Europe Berlin takes place from Thursday, September 10th, to Sunday, September 13th, 2026. The kick-off is the Thursday party ADAM, while the actual street festival opens on Friday at 6 PM. Saturday from 12 PM to 9 PM is the main street day. The closing party is RECON BERLIN on Sunday.
With around 20,000 expected guests from six continents, the event is Europe's largest festival in this spectrum and mobilizes all Schöneberg venues, hotels, and event spaces.
