150 Years Fire Brigade Adorf — A Double Anniversary in 2026

The Adorf Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1876 and is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2026. At the same time, the 10th Floriansfest of the fire brigade is being held — one of the most traditional regional fire brigade festivals in Saxony's Ore Mountains. The organizer is the Adorf Fire Brigade, and the 3rd Orchestra Meeting of the Neukirchen-Adorf Fire Brigade Music Corps is also integrated. The Floriansfest is considered one of the largest regional fire brigade festivals, held every three years, attracting thousands of visitors to the Ore Mountains municipality. Adorf is a district of the municipality of Neukirchen/Erzgeb. in the Erzgebirgskreis (Saxony).

Program Highlights

The festival opening on Friday evening traditionally starts with the fire brigade's procession, beer tapping, a ceremonial speech by the mayor, and a live concert (usually with the band STRINGS). On Saturday, starting in the afternoon, the program includes the Stammtisch with the Mayor of the municipality of Neukirchen/Erzgeb. in the festival tent, the grand Orchestra Meeting of the region's fire brigade music corps, fire brigade demonstrations, and the 'Grand Festival Evening' with dance music (band OB LIVE). The dramatic highlight is on Sunday: a 'blue-light' church service in the Adorf church in the morning, helicopter rides over the Ore Mountains, followed in the afternoon by the grand parade through the town with fire brigades, music corps, historic vehicles, and civic groups. The closing event is a concert by the Olbernhau Music Corps and a disco evening event.

Floriansfest Tradition

Saint Florian is the patron saint of firefighters — the 'Floriansfest' has been established in many fire brigade communities in Germany for centuries. In Adorf, it is celebrated every three years as one of the largest regional fire brigade festivals, attracting visitors from the entire Ore Mountains and the adjacent Czech region far beyond the municipal borders. The festival is characterized by the combination of tradition, club life, music, and Saxon conviviality.

Neukirchen/Erzgeb. is located in the Erzgebirgskreis in Saxony, south of Chemnitz and Aue. The municipality comprises two districts — Neukirchen and Adorf. Both districts maintain active fire brigade traditions with their own music corps, which together form the Neukirchen-Adorf Fire Brigade Music Corps. The 2026 Floriansfest is one of the municipality's most important major events — a festival that focuses on the voluntary work of the fire brigade and at the same time offers a welcome summer event for the entire region.
