Open-air cinema and concerts in Spreeauenpark — four weeks of high summer culture in the Lausitz region
The Spreeauenpark is located on the southeastern outskirts of Cottbus on Kiekebuscher Allee, nestled in the Spree's floodplain landscape. The park was created in 1995 for the Federal Garden Exhibition and has since become one of the greenest and most visited park areas in Lower Lusatia — with playgrounds, themed gardens, a butterfly house, and ample space for large events. In high summer, the park grounds become the venue for the Filmnächte.
The Filmnächte are an established open-air cinema format in East Germany. The organizer is PAN Veranstaltungslogistik und Kulturgastronomie GmbH, which operates the concept in Cottbus as well as at the Filmnächte am Elbufer in Dresden, Leipzig, and Dortmund. The idea: a large screen under the open sky, deck chairs and seating, high-quality sound, curated gastronomy, and a program mix of blockbusters, arthouse, film music concerts, and film classics.
The festival runs daily from August 13 to September 6, 2026, which is four full weeks. The program includes current cinema blockbusters from summer 2026, film music concerts with live orchestras (film concerts are a hallmark of the format), arthouse and independent films, family film matinees, and concerts by regional and national bands. The complete program will be announced in early summer 2026 — as of May 2026, "Program & Tickets available soon" is noted on the official website.
The Filmnächte tradition includes selected gastronomy with food trucks, regional providers, and a summer bar. The atmosphere — deck chairs on the grass, screen between the trees, with the Spree's floodplain waters in between — is one of the most relaxed open-air cultural formats in Brandenburg. Travel by tram or bus from Cottbus Hauptbahnhof in 15 minutes. Sign up for the newsletter at filmnaechte.de/newsletter for program updates.
